ALTO MODELS ARE LISTED IN ORDER FROM WARMER TO BRIGHTER:
CATEGORY 1: “ALTO MADNESS”—- The 10MFAN original modern design that Meyer guys will enjoy, and this has a larger chamber than the vintage Meyers.
This piece is fantastic, and I wanted to bring back some “old school” here with some REAL character built into it! Its got a nice deep chamber with slightly scooped sidewalls and a rollover baffle. All of you vintage Meyer and Link lovers will really dig this. Its got a full-bodied sound with lots of CHARACTER and the right resistance to push against, for a piece like this. Its all about the beauty of the sound. This is got a classic sweet alto sound and can be played pretty, or you can push it too and it can get punch! Listen to the videos on my website and you will hear this. I can lay back on it for some Art Pepper, Paul Desmond, Sonny Stitt, Lou Donaldson, Johnny Hodges, etc… BUT—- you can push it for a more modern direction like David Binney, Dick oats, etc….. Dave Pollack is CRAZY about his Alto Madness mouthpiece. Check out his sound in all the videos I have up on my website.
DESIGN: Roll over baffle, round and deep medium-large chamber, scooped sidewalls.
Category 2: “DADDY-O”—All around piece for jazz or pop
This alto piece is just SO much fun to play. This will give the Meyer or Link player more punch and brights, and can really rip for the brighter player.
“Daddy-O” alto mouthpiece: Highly versatile and flexible alto mouthpiece that produces sounds that range from sweet, warm, and colorful to modern with some nice brightness, great clarity, and punch. That’s why this is my all-around mouthpiece model. All the power necessary to lead a modern big band section through modern playing situations. Very versatile and classic sounding. An all-around mouthpiece like this should sing and ring, whether it’s warm or brighter! You can get all the classic alto vibes from this piece, but this has more power, clarity, and freedom in the blow. If you need even more aggressive, just go with the Showboat model. Its that simple a choice. Phil Woods, Cannonball, Charles McPherson, and Dick Oats vibes are certainly all available with this Daddy-O, to name a few,
This will have more punch and brightness to the sound than the Alto madness model, and less than the Showboat model. As always, it depends on what the player brings to the table
An amazing alto mouthpiece with a harmonic richness not found in more traditional designs. You can play as quiet as you want and as loud as you want and I designed it so it would not be as bright or punchy as the Showboat model can get, but still have lots of volume, killer altissimo, and more power available than most straight ahead alto players have experienced from the vintage models. For me, it’s so much more fun and satisfying to play than any vintage Meyer Bros and vintage mouthpieces like Brilhart, Selmer, Meyer, Otto Link, etc…), while keeping the tradition and classic alto sound associated with those pieces available. This piece can sing over a big band section or whisper as soft as you can.
This alto piece is for the player that digs a classic sound with punch and this has more freedom and clarity in it. It has straight side walls, and a very long and lower baffle compared to the Showboat model. There isn’t an alto mouthpiece that plays like this. I am very proud of my designs.
Category 3: “SHOWBOAT”— Very powerful jazz piece with body and punch!
Great powerhouse mouthpiece that combines classic Phil Woods with a modern power and punch. Powerful alto piece with more power, and brights to the sound than the Alto Madness + Daddy-O models…but not as bright, vibrant and powerful as the CATEGORY 4 SUPERNOVA model, which was designed for the modern powerhouse players.
“The Showboat” mouthpiece: Think 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s Phil Woods here with more brights and pop available. Great for jazz and well-suited for contemporary playing!
Such a fantastic lead alto mouthpiece sound! More punch and highs available in the Showboat model than in the Alto Madness and Daddy-O models. The Showboat has a longer facing curve than those other 2 models, and it’s freer blowing for the player who wants that brilliance up high when pushed. This has a medium height+, med-long baffle and straight side walls. It’s a shorter and higher baffle compared to the Daddy-O model. Its got all the volume any jazz player would ever need, but can also be played to a whisper. The sound is thick and full throughout. Think Phil Woods here with more brights and punch!
Category 4: “SUPERNOVA”— THE ABSOLUTE BEST ORIGINAL DESIGN POWERHOUSE HIGH BAFFLE ALTO MOUTHPIECE IN THE MARKETPLACE!
SUPER powerful, vibrant, and bright higher baffle piece with a roll over at the end, for that Pop, Funk, Sanborn, Marc Russo, Gerald Albright, Boney James smooth jazz, fusion, rock thing!!!!
This was NOT designed for the straight ahead jazz player. My other three alto pieces take care of that.
This was specifically designed for the player that wants to rip it with power and lots of highs and brightness in the sound, in a modern setting. Boney James, smooth jazz Artist Jaared, and the great Mikey Rivera—-3 of the best in the world for this style piece, are using this model full time, and are absolutely LOVING it!!!! What I love about Boney, is that he is able to warm it up to how he wants, all the other players go for the screaming, brighter side of it. It’s got all the brights, punch, and power that the power players who want a Category 4 mouthpiece will need, but also TONS OF BODY to the sound!!! CRAZY KILLER ALTISSIMO!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Neff said this piece has the best altissimo he has ever played on ANY alto mouthpiece! Very free blowing and vibrant. Designed for the powerhouse player who wants those highs and that brightness with a huge vibrant sound with overtones.
3-D PRINTED “FIREBALL” ALTO MOUTHPECE:
This mouthpiece is a ton of fun to play. It’s a great lead alto mouthpiece, but it also can be sweet and go from very soft to nice and loud! It’s got a real classic vintage alto sound and I’m extremely proud of it. As always, the videos I have up, tell the story better than my descriptions. It’s got a low rollover baffle and straight side walls, and my octagon chamber with chamber panels. I love the throat squeeze in this piece. I wanted the player to be able to fill up the mouthpiece how they wanted, and I’m really going to focus on rollover baffles with the Octagon Series Mouthpieces. The feedback so far has been incredible. Just listen to the beautiful videos that are coming in now.
Design: This is a beautiful, classic signing alto mouthpiece that can be warm and pretty, but also have plenty of punch! It’s got my proprietary, octagon chamber which gives it a very unique throat squeeze, straight sidewalls, and a very low rollover baffle.
ALTO REEDS:
All of my alto saxophone mouthpieces are incredibly efficient. They have punch and power built into them. Many of you currently use brighter reeds on your alto mouthpieces, because you need more punch, pop, and brightness. I find a lot of the designs out there to be too warm and dull for me, so I understand why you use those reeds. Because of that, I have built all of that into my designs, so you don’t need to do that anymore. I urge players to try different brands of reeds to get the color and response they want with my mouthpieces. Just because a certain warm reed brand was too warm on your last mouthpiece, doesn’t mean it will be with mine.
Please do not make the mistake of trying my alto mouthpieces with the reed brand that you currently use and assuming that it’s going to be the perfect match just because it works well with the mouthpiece you are using now. It may be a great match, but only you can make that call after you’ve tried the mouthpiece out some other reeds. Always treat each mouthpiece individually, and find the proper reed to give you what you are looking for with each mouthpiece.
My hard rubber mouthpieces are made from the finest German bar stock hard rubber, and hand finished by the 2 most respected mouthpiece refacers on the planet….Mr. Brian Powell and Mr. Erik Greiffenhagen.

3-D PRINTED “FIREBALL” ALTO MOUTHPECE: I always wanted to make a piece with an octagon chamber and see how that would be. This piece allowed me to do that! This is the only octagon chamber with chamber panels that exists in the saxophone world. I am very proud of this design and the piece plays phenomenal top the bottom. It is a very classic sounding alto peace, that is perfect for straight ahead jazz. It is not a bright piece that I would use in a super powerhouse setting, but for anything straight ahead, it’s just absolutely wonderful!
