My hard rubber tenor mouthpieces are made from the finest German bar stock hard rubber, and hand finished by 2 of the most respected mouthpiece refacers on the planet…. Mr. Brian Powell and Mr. Erik Greiffenhagen.
*** These tenor models are listed from warmer, to brighter and punchier. They go in order. There is a rhyme and reason to how I design, so this makes it easier for the player to pick what they need.
If you love Scott Hamilton, Getz, Mobley, etc…get my Classic or Celebration model. If you love Gene Ammons and Dexter Gordon, get my Robusto model. The Robusto model will have more brights and power than The Classic and the Celebration. If you need more punch and power and brights than the Robusto, say for corporate type gigs where you need louder and punchier…. get my Showtime model. If you need a piece for funk and rock and blues type settings, that can really let loose….get my Chameleon model.***
Category 1 mouthpieces: TWO warm category mouthpiece options.
Option 1: “THE CLASSIC”: The Slant slayer!!! The warmest of my offerings. Warm, classic, pure sound, with really good power, warmth, and smoothness…but plenty of volume when you need it.
Very flexible! It can get a classic Blue Note type of vibe. Getz, Mobley, early Sonny, Scott Hamilton, etc., but also more modern vibes like Chris Potter, Joel Frahm, Seamus, etc. The sound is fat, but still more focussed than all my other hard rubber tenor models. When you blow harder, it will get nice fatness to it. So it is not a sound that is directly in front of you, but it is certainly more focused than my other hard rubber tenor models. The sound is even top to bottom and projects well out to the audience. Always retains a rich sound no matter what volume level, full tone or subtone. This is an incredible straigh ahead jazz mouthpiece. Fantastic altissimo for a lower baffle mouthpiece and the intonation is amazingly locked in. THIS SMOKES THE SLANTS for me, with way more flexibility and versatility!
The Classic model is even warmer and more focused than the Celebration Model.
DESIGN: This is my warmest, hard, rubber tenor mouthpiece, and was designed to get that classic vintage sound but with much more going on than a Slant type piece will give you. It’s incredibly flexible and can go from warm to more modern, depending on the players ability. It doesn’t stick you in just that warm vein unless you want it to.
It’s got a large chamber with a short baffle.
OPTION 2: “CELEBRATION”: The Reso slayer!!! My 2nd warmest offering. Taking this warm, full, vibrant design WAAAAAAY beyond what the vintage hard rubber Slants and Reso Chamber Links can do. Its got some Reso, Slant, and Early Babbitt in it, and I have taken it to where I believe Mr. Otto Link would have gone today for todays players. Huge, full, even sound!!!
I was the biggest high end vintage mouthpiece dealer on the net for over 30 years and then I started my 10MFAN Company. This piece is long overdue for you Link lovers. This is an ORIGINAL design that plays incredibly smooth top to bottom with really fat sound in the palm keys. It outplays any Link type piece in the marketplace, in my opinion….and thats from a guy who has owned more vintage Links than anyone out there! All you see in the marketplace are copies of each of the vintage Otto Link models. This Celebration does FAR MORE! Nothing ever made like this. Big, open, full, rich, powerful warm sound that will stand up and beat up on original vintage hr tenor Links that goes for $1500. This original design Celebration mouthpiece is phenomenal. Warm, round, even, with a full sound with open power. This piece has a bigger sound to it than The Classic model and stays super even blowing top to bottom.
Design: This mouthpiece was designed to be even fuller with more power than “The Classic”, but still has that beautiful, warm, even top-to-bottom sound with more fatness. It’s got a large chamber with a very very short ledge baffle and scooped sidewalls.
Category 2 mouthpieces: TWO All-around, middle category mpc options that offer warmth, fatness, punch, and edge with sizzle added. More sizzle and brights than both the category 1 models.
Option 1: “ROBUSTO”: Early Babbitt slayer!!!! Gene Ammons/Dexter vibe!!! Spread, fat, warm, with punch and edge when pushed.
I designed the Robusto to be my personal tenor mouthpiece—-and it is. For me, this offers the perfect blend of some lows, lots of mids, + some highs, and has a rich color palette and wide dynamic range. It has a heavier focus on the mid range. The sound has a really great classic warmth with edge and a serious beautiful punch available when you want it. More power, punch, and brightness available than the category one Celebration and The Classic mouthpieces. This has a timeless “hard bop NY tenor sound” and a modern Jazz sound is available from it at the same time, with a nice sizzle on top when you want it. Plenty of room to let loose with this piece. It offers great body and depth. it’s clean and powerful with a huge, full body of sound. I designed the palm keys to allow the sound to”open up” beautifully as you push it. This piece is designed to release the sound up in the palm keys so it will get a little thinner up there than the category one pieces, and that was done on purpose… so when you are playing gigs where you need to really let loose up high, this will release the sound!!! The Classic and Celebration will stay more warm and fat up there, and the Robusto will let loose for the guys that need more punch and brights up there.
Design: This was designed to be my most flexible, tenor mouthpiece. It sits right in the middle of warm to bright and allows the player to get both comfortably. It has more power, punch, and brightness, than The Classic and Celebration models. But I don’t think of this as a bright mouthpiece. It’s really a tremendous all around player. It has a gorgeous, medium length baffle where the floor drops after it and it has a large chamber with straight side walls.
Option 2: “SHOWTIME”: Berg Slayer!!! Focused, open sounding piece with warmth, extra punch, some brights, and sizzle. Great all-around player to be used for anything. This is my cross-over piece for players who need a piece for the jazz stuff and pop type powerful stuff. For all you guys who love the Robusto model, but want warmth, but even more freedom in the blow, punch, focus, and more brights available….THIS IS IT!
Design: This was designed to give the player more power, punch, and brightness than my Classic, Celebration, and Robusto models. It was designed for the player that needs a mouthpiece that can be warm and bright with a free or blow then the other three mouthpieces I mentioned. This piece has a medium baffle with straight side walls and a higher floor than the Robusto model.
Category 3 mouthpiece:
OPTION 1:
“BLACK WIDOW”:
This piece will come back to the lineup in the beginning of June! It’s got a longer step baffle that’s at a moderate height. Not like the super high baffle pieces you see out there. Those do one thing well, while this does many things well!!! It’s got a fatter/wider sound than the Chameleon, (which is the second piece in this category), and it’s got lots of punch and power available. Definitely the fatter sounding of these two Category 3 models. Designed with a moderate height longer baffle, straight side walls, and a large chamber.
