A modern 10MFAN original designed for players who love the classic Meyer concept but want a little bigger chamber, tons of character, and a lot of versatility, in a completely different original design!

The Alto Madness captures much of what players love about the great vintage Meyer mouthpieces without being a tweaked up version of one of those. With a slightly larger chamber than a traditional vintage medium-chamber Meyer, it produces a rich, full-bodied sound with beautiful warmth, depth, and complexity, with a nice focus and some cut for the players that can blow brighter.

This is a mouthpiece built around the beauty of the classic vintage alto saxophone sound. It offers the perfect amount of resistance to push against, allowing players to shape phrases naturally while maintaining a strong connection to the horn. The result is a sound that is expressive, colorful, and full of character.

The Alto Madness excels in traditional jazz settings where a sweet, singing alto voice is desired. Think Bird, Art Pepper, Paul Desmond, Sonny Stitt, Lou Donaldson, and Johnny Hodges. Yet unlike many vintage-inspired designs, it also has enough punch and projection to move comfortably into more contemporary territory when pushed. Players looking for the flexibility to cover both will find plenty to love here.

It’s the warmest offering of mine so far.

Whether you’re searching for warmth, lyrical beauty, expressive nuance, or a little extra edge when needed, the Alto Madness delivers a wonderfully balanced combination of tradition and versatility.

Dave Pollack has become a passionate Alto Madness player, and his recordings featured throughout the website showcase just how beautifully this mouthpiece can sing.
