The Classic
Category 1 – Warmth • Depth • Tradition
The Classic is the warmest tenor mouthpiece in the entire 10MFAN lineup but it can also get medium and have good power. Don’t think it only does warm, but it is indeed the warmest of what I offer.
Designed for players who love rich, traditional tenor saxophone sounds, The Classic delivers warmth, depth, focus, and remarkable tonal purity while maintaining enough projection and flexibility for modern performance situations. The response is smooth and controlled, with a carefully balanced amount of resistance that allows the player to lean into the sound without ever feeling restricted.
While The Classic excels at producing the warm, sophisticated sounds associated with the great straight-ahead jazz recordings, it is far more versatile than most traditional vintage-style mouthpieces. It can easily capture the spirit of Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, early Sonny Rollins, and Scott Hamilton, yet it is equally capable of moving into a more jazz territory inspired by players such as Chris Potter, Joel Frahm, and Seamus Blake.
The sound is wonderful. Rather than producing a sound that spreads excessively, The Classic maintains a centered core that projects beautifully to an audience while preserving warmth and depth at every dynamic level.
Whether playing full voice or subtone, the sound remains rich, even, and balanced from top to bottom. The intonation is exceptionally stable, and for a lower-baffle design, the altissimo response is outstanding.
For players seeking the classic jazz tenor sound, this mouthpiece is simply a joy to play.
It delivers everything players love about the great vintage Slant-style pieces while offering significantly more flexibility, versatility, consistency, and range of expression.
The Classic is even warmer and more focused than the Celebration model.

Design:
The Classic features a large chamber combined with a short baffle, creating a warm, rich tonal foundation that many players will perceive as darker than my other tenor offerings. The side rails are intentionally designed slightly thicker, and the mouthpiece incorporates a carefully balanced amount of resistance to help produce its distinctive warmth, depth, and focus.
Most importantly, The Classic is not limited to one sound concept. While it can absolutely live in the world of traditional jazz, it also possesses enough flexibility to move into more contemporary jazz settings when the player desires.
The result is a tenor mouthpiece that honors tradition while providing the versatility demanded by today’s players.
If you’re searching for the warmest, most traditional tenor mouthpiece I make—one that delivers depth, focus, beauty, and remarkable flexibility—The Classic is exactly what you’ve been looking for.
