I was thinking Gene Ammons here when I designed this! For me, this is the greatest all-around straight ahead hard rubber jazz mouthpiece I’ve ever played.
This piece offers the perfect blend of lows, mids, and highs. A rich color palette and a wide dynamic range. The sound has fat warmth and a really nice punch to it when pushed. A timeless hard bop ny tenor sound. Classic straight ahead sound with more power and punch than the traditional vintage mouthpieces. There is lots of room to let loose with this piece. It’s very Gene Ammons on his “Boss Tenors” album, and Dexter Gordon on his “GO” album, for me—it offers great body and depth. It’s clean and powerful top to bottom with a huge body of sound. Like all my mouthpieces, the sound “opens up” beautifully.
This has a longer baffle than the merlot and the sound is huge and very fat with much more punch than the Merlot model.
I designed this to be my personal tenor mpc—–and it has been for 5 years now.
